Prepare the ingredients
Preheat the oven to broil
Chop the onion and the garlic.
Cook the gnocchi
Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and add the gnocchi. Cook for 5 min or until the gnocchi float, then drain and set aside.
Cook onion and beef
Heat a large nonstick oven-proof skillet over medium-high heat. Place the onion, garlic, ground beef and the Italian spice mixture in the skillet. Using a spoon, break the meat into small pieces. Season with salt and pepper and cook for 2 min.
Stir in gnocchi and tomatoes
Add the gnocchi and mix well. Stir in tomatoes and continue cooking for 3 min, stirring occasionally.
Make the salad
In a bowl, mix the lettuce with the balsamic vinegar and 1 Tsp of olive oil (double for 4 ppl.).
Broil and serve
Spread the cheese over the mixture. Finish cooking in the oven under broil for 2 min or until cheese is golden.
Garnish with coarsely shredded basil leaves and serve.
